William Hammerle is appointed Associate Professor of Physics. He heads a program in Engineering Science within the Department of Physics.

 

1965

John E. Gibson is appointed the first dean of the new School of Engineering.

J. Carroll Hill and David E. Boddy come from Purdue with John Gibson to start the new School of Engineering.

Carroll Hill is appointed Associate Professor of Engineering.

David Boddy is appointed Assistant Professor of Engineering.

William Hammerle transfers from the Physics Department to the new School of Engineering.

A General Engineering program is established with an emphasis on Systems Engineering, a broad core curriculum, and laboratories associated with every engineering course.

Gilbert Wedekind is appointed Assistant Professor of Engineering.

Richard Shank is appointed Associate Professor of Engineering and Associate Dean.

Retired engineers Kenneth A. Meade, John G. Gievers, Martin A. Erickson, and Sixten Nygren donate their time to teach classes and labs, assist with research projects, and help in the fabrication and machining of laboratory equipment.

 

1978

Mohammed S. Ghausi is appointed Professor of Engineering and Dean of the School of Engineering.

Nan (Robert) Loh is appointed Professor of Engineering.

The first Ph.D. degrees are awarded to Howard C. Crabb (Prof. Benjamin Cheydleur, Advisor) and to Bhushan Bhatt and Terry Beck (Prof. Gilbert Wedekind, Advisor).

Separate majors in computer, electrical, mechanical, and systems engineering are created and receive accreditation.

The Center for Robotics and Advanced Automation is established with Prof. Nan Loh as director.

Because of the large number of computer science offerings, and the relevance of computers both to and within the engineering disciplines, the name of the school is changed to the School of Engineering and Computer Science.

 

1983

Brian Sangeorzan is appointed Assistant Professor of Engineering.

 

1984

Thomas Butler is appointed Professor of Engineering and Dean of the School of Engineering and Computer Science.
